Family and Consumer Sciences is a content area concerned with preparing people for independence, family life and employment. Students apply knowledge from a variety of academic disciplines. Courses are designed to develop the total well-being of the students, empowering them to become healthy, well adjusted, self-confident and productive individuals, family members and employees. Knowledge and life skills from Family and Consumer Sciences are needed for today and in the future in order to lead a balanced life. Family and Consumer Sciences provide opportunities for students to explore and prepare for careers in a large variety of content areas. Learning activities in this area help students become more effective critical thinkers and problem solvers.
