Grade 4

Dear Students and Parents,

Welcome to 4th Grade! I am eager to get to work with each one of you and begin building our classroom community. Fourth grade is full of exciting adventures and opportunities in which students share many positive learning experiences as they become more independent and take on more responsibilities.

As for me, my name is Mr. Reimes and I have been working here at John Hustis Elementary for seven years. I taught 4th grade here at JHE for all those years and I really enjoy being in this grade. My wife Amanda and I have been married for almost eight years and we have a son named Kevin who is three. Also, we have one on the way who is due in October of this year making it a very exciting time for my family. I am originally from the Dodge county area and currently reside in Beaver Dam.

I enjoy teaching all subjects, though math and science are my favorites. Students will learn many things this year from manipulating fractions to Wisconsin government and agriculture. In fourth grade students will participate in a science fair to gain experience with the scientific method and a student wax museum where they will morph into representations of influential figures from our great state of Wisconsin. We will have several field trips and other hands on activities throughout the year that will engage students and enhance their learning.

Fourth grade is a transition year for many of our students they gain more independence and responsibility. They are responsible for making sure their homework is done and being prepared for class the next day. To prepare students for junior high and high school students starting in fourth grade begin to switch teachers for different subjects. They will gain good organizational skills and learn how to adjust to different classrooms as well as teaching styles throughout their school day. Each student will need a 3 ring binder with a student planner to help them organize homework assignments, long-term projects, and parent/teacher communications. This binder is key to student success and will need to be brought back and forth to school daily. I am looking forward to a great year with you in fourth grade and if you ever have any questions please feel free to e-mail me at reimesj@hustisford.k12.wi.us.
